Tea Tree Oil
Tonight at band, I showed my leg wound to our director. He and his wife highly recommended tea tree oil as a healing antiseptic. They even gave me a partial bottle they had. I've got it soaking on the wound right now.
I smell like.... like a swamp full of Lipton tea in the middle of a greenhouse. Weird.

It is soothing, though. I wasn't expecting that. It's taken away a significant amount of the discomfort I was having. I'm impressed.
(1) Here's one article about tea tree oil's benefits as an antiseptic for wounds.
(2) Here's another. (This one's from the Mayo Clinic!)
(3) And another.
(4) And one more.
I'd like to give it the benefit of the doubt.
We'll see how things look in the morning.

We always knew bob was a tree hugging hippie with his witch doctor remedies
Kyle (Juby): LOL! :) I sometimes wonder what Bob was like back in the 60's!!
My husband like tea tree oil shampoo. It is very good, but I can't stand the smell of it.
Well, I read all of the articles you linked to... cause I'm like that.
Feel free to ignore my blather, it's what I do. It sounds fairly safe as long as you don't eat it or develop an alergy. If it seems to help with the pain that's a good thing.
I always like to point out that herbals are drugs and it's always best to look into them before you take them. I take herbal medications sometimes because they are cheap, but some work better than others.
Isn't it funny that something called "tea tree oil" would be toxic if you ate it?
Lynda: I kinda like the smell, actually. It's interesting... my cats hate it, though!
Marilyn: I agree; read up on stuff before you use it. Interesting articles, huh? I was impressed that the Mayo Clinic recommends tea tree oil. And I have to admit, it DOES seem to be helping.
Woo Hoo tree hugging hippie and witch doctor remedies!!!
I hope it works.
Ooooh, a cat repellent!! Another great use for tea tree, when my cats harass me too much.
Except the whole smell thing. I guess it is a Lynda repellent too!
/cry
Danielle: It certainly seems to be making it drain a lot. Ugh!!
Lynda: Cat repellent AND Lynda repellent? Wow, the Mayo Clinic never mentioned that...
Draining as nasty as it seems is the best thing for a wound, child. Just keep changing the bandages and I would see the doc again in a few days to be sure everything is on the up and up.
Mr. Fab: I went. Any other requests? Mozart requiem? Topless aerobics?
Danielle: It ended up being cellulitis. Bad thing. Not good.
