Me, two police cars, and a chicken sandwich

A weird thing happened recently.

The short version of the story is that I got questioned by the police for eating Arby's food in a Wendy's parking lot.

The long version of the story is this:

It was late and I had some Arby's coupons which were going to expire soon, so I used one of them for a snack before going home. Went to the drive-thru, got my stuff, and all seemed well with the world.

For reasons which my brain seemed to understand at the time, I pulled into Wendy's parking lot to eat my stuff in the car there. (I guess it was more empty than the Arby's lot, and I felt like I'd have more privacy. I hate having people watch me eat.)

So I sat there and listened to R.E.M. while grazing happily through a chicken-bacon-swiss with honey mustard.

A few seconds after the final bite, I noticed headlights behind me.
Two cars had parked behind me to box me in.   I was trapped and couldn't move.

They were police cars.

A cop came up to my window and said someone had called the police to investigate why I was sitting there eating in my car.

(Really??? Honestly? Someone thought that was worthy of calling the police?? And the police thought it was worthy of sending two cars???)

I patiently explained that I had just finished eating my dinner and would be going home very soon now that I was done.

He asked to see my I.D.
They actually ran me through the system to make sure I had a clean record and wasn't some crazy lady wanted for [insert heinous crime here].

Fortunately, I lead a dull life and haven't done many horrible things in my 43 years on this planet, other than forgetting to scoop the litter box now and then.

Once they were all convinced that I wasn't a threat to homeland security for eating Arby's food in a Wendy's parking lot, they told me to "have a nice day" and one police car moved enough for me to get out.

Wow.

I still can't believe someone would call the police for that.
And I can't believe the police took it seriously.

That was the fast food police. You should know better.

nonamedufus: LOL. If it was really the fast food police, they should have cared a lot more about my cholesterol. ;)

Gee, what next?
I'll sleep much better tonight now that they've checked you out... :}

Marcia: LOL! Yes, sweet dreams!

Adrian: LOL! Actually, since it was the Wendy's employees who called, I could just burn down Wendy's!
(Note to any FBI/CIA who might be eavesdropping: I'm joking! I'm joking!)

So, you ordered a sandwich from them and they called the police on you? WTF?

Adrian: No, no... I ordered the sandwich from Arby's. Then I went to eat it in the Wendy's lot (because it wasn't so crowded at Wendy's, I guess). Then the Wendy's people called the police.

It was dark, so I doubt they could see what kind of food I was eating. Therefore I doubt they called the police to specifically report that I was eating the food of a different restaurant. But they had to have said something dire to the police, since they sent TWO police cars to block me in.
I have to wonder, just what did they say to them?

It's not threatening or dangerous to eat dinner in your car, nor is it illegal to eat Arby's food in a Wendy's lot. They may not like it, but it's not illegal.

I've written a letter to that location AND to their national headquarters. We'll see if anybody writes back.
