Here I am! Don't go away! I tried fake chicken today! Come back... Come back!

I'm back... never mind the complete meltdown I had yesterday.
I'm back in the saddle again, on a meatless horse, using rice noodles for reins and some sturdy root vegetables for stirrups, and...

(Feel free to alter that metaphor in a slightly less awkward way.)

Anyway, I'm continuing the vegan odyssey.
I despise the idea of giving up.
Partly this is because I'm devoted, partly I'm stubborn, partly it's because I hope you'll all be entertained by my trauma, and partly it's because I think I killed a few brain cells who think they'll never see pepperoni pizza ever again. I tried apologizing but they just wouldn't listen.

Anyway....
Today I tried a few new things.

I actually tried SOY milk.
First time ever.
It wasn't anywhere near as horrid as I feared.
I still like real milk better, but whatever.
I had the vanilla soy milk on my breakfast cereal, and the chocolate soy milk as a beverage with dinner.

I also tried fake chicken.
Er, I mean, Morningstar Farms "Chik'n".
Although it clearly wasn't real chicken, it also wasn't entirely bad. If you go into it expecting a stale rancid chicken-esque hush puppy, you'll be pleasantly surprised. If you go into it expecting delicious succulent juicy chicken, crispy-breaded to perfection, you will be miserably disappointed. Fortunately, I took the former route and was pleasantly surprised.

Additional bonus: I found a kind of bread that doesn't have eggs in the ingredients. The cool thing is that they're a brand I had already tried previously, so I knew I liked them. It's Arnold "Sandwich Thins". Because of this, I was able to have a peanut butter sandwich for lunch!

............................................................................................
Breakfast:
Kellogg's All-Bran with vanilla soy milk
Blueberry Applesauce
Ruby Red Grapefruit Juice

Lunch:
Peanut butter sandwich made on the aforementioned "sandwich thins"

Mid-afternoon snack:
Cranberries
Grape Tomatoes
Green Tea with Lemon

Dinner:
Morningstar Farms "Sweet & Sour Chik'n"
Crispy rice noodles
Chocolate Soy Milk

Evening Snack:
Ben & Jerry's "Berried Treasure" Sorbet
... (Blueberry, Blackberry, and Lemon Sorbet, swirled together.) (!!)

I love it! It is amazing how far the vegan/vegetarian items have come. I highly recommend anything from Field Roast http://www.fieldroast.com/products.htm. Some of their stuff is downright delicious!!

Anyway, glad you are feeling better!

I like Morningstar products - I eat their veggie burgers and I'm no vegan! The sorbet sounds great. I prefer it to ice cream because I am lactose intolerant.

Steve: I didn't see anything from Field Roast at any of the stores... Maybe it's not available in the boondocks of Michigan...? Hmmm.

Grace: I especially love their Garden Veggie patties and their "Hot & Spicy" Breakfast Sausage. It's not really all that spicy, but still pretty tasty. I'd be eating them right now, except they contain egg whites. :(

Um...so if it isn't real chicken, what exactly is it?

Okay, I have to know: You do this vegetarian (now vegan) thing from time to time, but why? What is your motivation? Is it guilt, a sense of adventure, or some sort of cleansing ritual? Do tell....

I love Silk soy milk, by the way, especially the chocolate. I like it about as much as real chocolate milk, maybe even as much depending on my mood.

And, yes, I'm aware that you're looking for blog fodder, but I'm sure there's more to it than that. I mean, you could run red-hot pokers through your thigh, too, and get a pretty interesting article out of it. But you don't, because that would be silly.

nonamedufus: Something with texturized vegetable protein, I think. It's probably best if I don't think too hard about that. :)

MikeWJ: Every now and then I like to step "out of the box", just for a teensy amount of time. Once my foray is over, I breathe a sigh of relief and step back into my box with renewed gratitude for the things I previously took for granted.
That and the fact that I need things to blog about. And I hope to attract readers who may be nursing a secret case of schadenfreude.
Maybe next month I can try that "red-hot poker" thing instead.
