It sounds like a dinosaur sighing

"What's that sound?"  Janna asked, startled.

"I don't hear anything.  Is it your phone?"

"No."

"Is the new cat you adopted destroying something in the other room?"

"Probably, but that's not it."

"Is it the sound of your youth slowly draining away because your birthday is Friday and you're--"

"Ahh.  Yes.  That must be it."

Yes, I really did adopt a new cat last week.
He's about 8 and 1/2 years old.  He's big.  He's white with black spots.  He is extremely affectionate.  His life revolves around sleeping, eating, drinking, pooping, peeing, and snuggling.
Not bad work if you can get it.

And yes, Friday the 11th is my birthday.

So have you come up with a name yet?

Janna said...

Grace: So far I'm strongly considering the possibility of naming him "Hopkins". "Hopsy" for short.

Anthony Hopkins is one of my favorite actors, so I like that name. And seeing as how you've shamelessly plugged your birthday, happy birthday! Hope it's a good one for you and the cat.

Janna said...

Marcia: I named him after the song "Lightnin' Hopkins" by R.E.M.
And, aww, I didn't mean to shamelessly plug anything. I was just engaging in some self-deprecating humor to take my mind off being old. :)

Happy Birthday, youngster--don't worry, you'll survive the birthday. Sunday past was my 60th--(good freaking lord!!!! How did THAT happen ???)

Congrats on the new addition to your family. And good luck. bahahahahaha

You will have a great birthday. Because (tentatively) Hopsy says so.

Janna said...

Akannie: Thank you for the evil laughter. :)

Brian: I thought about getting a kitten, but decided on an older cat because the Humane Society has a harder time finding homes for the older ones.

brandi: LOL. He's here on my lap while I'm trying to type. He's purring. :) Awww.

Happy Birthday! I love REM so he has a good namesake. Youth does have a way of sneaking off (much like a cat) but then in its stead comes insight and stamina. Or something like that!

Happy Birthday Janna Belle
Lets see, if I remember right, it's your 29th correct?
And no mention of weird food, weird food cravings, or weird food addictions?
Loved your foodless, self indulgent 55...:P:P
Thanks for playing, you are like steaming cup of Tim Horton's (Double Cream) first thing in the Morning, have a Kick Ass Week-End

Oh, happy birthday! And remember you're the youngest you'll ever be! (sorry if that's a depressing comment)

Happy B'day! And congrats on the catty. I would've said kitty, but it's too old to be a kitty, so... catty. :)

Janna said...

Yvonne: I'm still waiting for the insight and stamina.

life in the mom lane: Thank you!

Grace: Yaaaay!

G-man: Actually, no, I'm... (*ahem*) Er, I mean, why YES, of course... 29 it is. Not 43 or anything like that....

OtherMary: It's depressing AND true!

Shelly: LOL. Yes, catty fits perfectly!

I missed your birthday? Well happy birthday and remember what I like to say: birthdays are like boogers. The more you have the harder it is to breathe.

Janna said...

nonamedufus: That was beautiful. And true. You should work for Hallmark.
