A new chapter in the feline opera of life

The enemy appeared within seconds, crawling out from behind the sofa.

"Now's my chance," thought Kittles.  "I shall make the intruder pay."

And, just as Muggy bent over to lick himself, the ambush occurred.

WHAM!

ROWR!

HISS!

FFFTTT!!

"STOP FIGHTING!"  Shouted the human from some other room.

Both cats reluctantly growled, waiting until next time.

As you probably know if you hang around here much (or if you read this, this, and this, my beloved cat Brynden passed away on December 20th.

I've been perusing the MANY cats available for adoption at the local Humane Society, (there are over 240 there!!!) and I think I've found one I really like.

The cat is about 8 years old and is very tame and easygoing.
Color/Coat: full size shorthaired adult cat, white with black spots.
I plan to adopt on Friday, January 4th.
The next trick will be the introduction to my other cat (Honeynut), who I have had for 17 years.
I expect the usual kitty comedy-tragedy opera of fighting and hissing and arguing about who's who.
After an acceptable amount of time has passed, I expect they will be good friends.
(Maybe a few weeks or months... that's how long it's taken in the past, anyway.)

I'm still trying to think of a good name for the new cat.

Let me know if you have any suggestions. :)

i am sorry...our elder cat passed away on the 23rd of december...our kitten is pretty depressed in the after...we were giving him some attention as they say they can be depressed for up to 6 mos after the passing of another cat in the home...i hope you find your cat...we will probably get another as we got used to 2...

Love this 55. I have a stray pregnant cat hiding out under an old sewing cabinet.

Brian: It never occurred to me that cats could be depressed, but it makes sense. (!!)

Brandi: Aww! Find good homes for the kittens! :)

It's a good thing...What is the cat's name now? I've never found cats do so well with name changes unless they hate they one they have and you can come up with a better one...

Sorry about the cat. I think for me one would be enough. How about Hank for your newbie? And may there be no cat wars in 2013.

Grace: I still haven't thought of a good name. The old name was "Spotty", which just doesn't quite sound right.

Yvonne: I had three for awhile, but that was way too many because one of them was a bully. I had to find a new home for him. That left me with Brynden and Honeynut, which ended up being exactly the right amount. Now that I only have Honeynut, she and I both seem to feel like the house is empty somehow. Thus my search for a 2nd cat. :)

Janna....
As a keeper of three cats myself I absolutely understand.
((((HUGGS)))
Loved your feline 55
Thanks for playing, You are like a great pair of knee high galoshes in ankle deep slush.
Have a Kick Ass Week-End

So sorry about your loss. I must say that sounds a lot like my house. With three cats sharing a space and two that don't get along. The fourth stays upstairs because there's already enough drama. Hope they learn to get along.

I'm so sorry about Brynden. That's so hard.

G-Man: I've never been compared to galoshes before!

Teresa: I just brought the new cat home. The two are learning to get along even as we speak. It's fun watching the new cat explore everything.
I still haven't figured out what his name is going to be. :)

MamaZen: He was a very, very good cat and I will always miss him.

No cat would want to be named 'Spotty' - eeek! You'll just have to see what her personality is...

Awww. Sorry you lost your cat and I hope the new member of the family manages to settle in with only minor skirmishes.

Janna said...

Grace: He looks like a cross between a cat and a panda bear. :)
So far, his personality is very peaceful and easygoing. He is very tame and docile.
Usually he moves very slowly. I can't tell if that's because he's older or if he's just being laid back. :)
He likes to climb on things.
My other cat is hissing and growling up a storm, but he hasn't fought back at all. Not even once.
He's very much a "turn the other cheek" kind of cat.
Brynden was that way too, and it's one of the things I loved about him.

Nara: That's exactly how it's been so far... minor skirmishes. :)
Once Honeynut gets used to him, I hope the two can be friends.

Well then you can call him LB for Little Buddha...

Grace: I am still trying to think of a name. I've never had this much trouble trying to thing of a cat name before!
Odd!
I can come up with all sorts of ideas, of course, but none of them reach out and grab me as being the "right" one.
Austin, Binky, Macon, Thomas, Dice... it might be one of those.

I've always had two cats and am quite familiar with "introductions". They will be fast friends ... one year :)

Margaret: I agree; I think my two will end up being friends eventually. :)
