Manic Monday: Independence

I've been sad and lonely lately, by myself, riding the time warp of depression like a slow-motion roller coaster plummeting into a particularly rocky crevasse filled with shards of broken uncooked pasta. (Mostly the large shell-shaped kind).
I value my independence, I just wish I didn't have to spend all of it alone.
This somehow reminds me of a scene from Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer:

Rudolph has just run away. So has Hermie the elf. They happen to run into each other and briefly trade stories of what they're doing.
Hermie says he wants to be independent.
Rudolph agrees and says he wants that , too, though it's clear from the way he awkwardly pronounces the word "in-de-pen-dent" that he might not be entirely clear about what it means. Hermie replies with a great idea: "Hey, whaddya say we both be independent together?"

That bit of dialogue always makes me smile a little bit, even if it's a sad smile.

Lol, that's just like some women pretend to be independent from their husbands but forget the word "together" !

I don't see why you can't have both? I hope you find it soon.

Do something fun and that may cheer you up. Do something silly, as that always does it for me. Have a happy and safe Independence Day. :)

Hope you get through the doldrums soon. It is good that a person know they can be independent. It is even nicer when they realize they can share themselves without losing their freedom.

Cheer up sparky!
You reminded me of that song which I always found a bit odd in the Christmas special but was drawn to the lyrics.
"Let's be independent together." Though the phrase doesn't quite make sense it speaks volumes to the outsiders among us. I proudly wave my freak flag which separates me from the mainstream and makes it harder to find people to connect with but I must stay true to myself above all. The blogosphere does make me feel I am not alone and you, my dear are surely not alone.

Smile, sweets.

I like the rudolph.

Wanna go backpacking with us? We take those teeny tiny little bottles of tabasco but we tend to leave the ketchup at home.

Hope you find somebody to be independent with soon. I'd set you up but then you'd probably wish I hadn't.

oh, I'm sorry, but I'm trying to picture Janna back-packing, Marilyn!
Perhaps if you put your tiny bottle of tobasco sauce on a string and used it like carrot & stick...
but no, the image just isn't coming to me....

and Janna, now I have "we're on the island of misfit toys" stuck in my head, thankyouverymuch.

Mr. Fab: Thank you... :)

Gattina: It's a touchy subject for some people....

Turnbaby: Am I? I'll have to go look and see.....

Matt-man: Thanks for visiting!

Jersey: I'll pass on the nose-licking, thanks.... but I'm glad you're here! Stop back again when I'm more entertaining! :)

Sanni: Well, I still like to imagine all you guys in 3D anyway. :)

Tegdirb: Y'know, I was just staring at your name awhile ago when it finally dawned on me that it's BRIDGET spelled backwards! D'oh! How could I have missed that?

Lynda: I hope so too. :(

Comedy+: Silly is good.

CWM: Thanks for trying. LOL! :)

Metalmom: With my luck, both those things will happen by the end of the week.

Jamie: Well said.

Danielle: Love the term "Freak Flag." Hate the name "Sparky." Thanks. ;)

Marilyn: I have a better idea. Mail me the little tabasco bottles, and I'll finish those off by myself while YOU go hiking. Deal?

Morgen: And ever since I read your comment, that song has been stuck in MY head, too!!!!!

Steve: He needed to accessorize more, don't you think?

I didn't know the elf was gay!

Marilyn: Neither did I, until Steve enlightened me!

I could strip down to my underwear and jump out of a giant CAKE. Would that help?

Janna said...

Travis: It might! We'll never know until we try!

Been there, felt like that. It's not pretty, but it can end. You need a dog. Oh wait...you don't like dogs. Um, okay...you need a cowboy named Steven.

Janna said...

Desert Songbird: You're exactly right! Go tell Steve!

sometimes you need a little help to be independent.

Natalie: Very true!
