A Taste For Blood

I have decided to become a vampire. Over the course of the next month or so, I will be visiting you all while you sleep, and gradually converting you over to the dark side.
("Come to the dark side; we have cookies!")
No, actually, what I meant to say is that I decided to try Blood Oranges for the first time.
I was at the store and I saw them in the produce section. I've seen them before and never really felt compelled to try them, until now.
So I got three.
And I just tried my very first one.
The coloring is a nice dark claret. I can definitely see where the name comes from.
I'd been hoping that the taste would be some exquisitely sweet syrupy delicious eruption of flavor.
Alas.
It's not that different from a regular orange.
But at least now I can say I've tried it.
So, hey, maybe the vampire thing can work out after all.
Please leave your doors and windows unlocked for the next few weeks.

GACK!! They say you eat with your eyes too - I must say I am not tempted to try those oranges.

Now if you had...say...some CAKE...then I could be tempted to the dark side.

Believe it or not, these are the oranges they use for orange juice in Italy. Yummy! But the color is a bit jarring at first.

How's the migraine?

Travis: Ok, I'll put cake on the grocery list.

Steven: The migraine is finally gone!

Gattina: Thank you! How does Tuesday sound? I'll stop by around 11:30.

Mr. Fab: Aww, c'mon, lemme in. I added you to my Technorati favorites; surely that's worth a bite or two...

I don't think I would try these if I had heard the name first.

Amisare: I think that's what took me so long to try them. On one level, they sound gross, yet on another darker, creepier level, they sound disturbingly cool...

should I tell you that Martha adores blood oranges?

I've tried them before and you're right: pretty much like any old orange once you get past the color.
Best orange flavor in my opinion: clementines

Morgen: MARTHA likes them?? Drat. We must never speak of this again.
