The reason why happiness involves styrofoam and tomatoes

Is anyone else out there old enough to remember the days when McDonald's sandwiches came in styrofoam containers?
I loved it because you could use one side of the open container as a dish for the ketchup, and the other side for the fries.
(The styrofoam wouldn't sog up like cardboard does.)

This was back before they had ketchup pumps where you fill your own cups. You actually had to open a zillion of those little packets and painstakingly build your own ketchup puddle. And they were stingy with the ketchup packets.

I love McDonald's ketchup.
A lot.
They have their own recipe.
I think they probably put crack in it or something.

There was one time during my teenage years when I asked for 13 ketchup packets to go with my fries.
They refused.
(!)
The goody-two-shoes teenage cashier went and reported my request to the manager. The manager actually came over and said they would not allow me to have more than four packets.
I passive-aggressively accepted it back then, but if they tried that junk on me these days I'd make a point of asking for my money back.

Seriously, it's not like 13 ketchup packets would have hurled them into a spiraling pit of bankruptcy.

Happily, this issue no longer has to happen, since they switched to those ketchup dispenser pumps. Now you can pour as much as you want.
The downside is that the only receptacles they provide are those tiny paper cups that are barely large enough to hold two grapes.

Thus my nostalgia for the old styrofoam days.

I should probably just bring in my own Tupperware jug and bleed them dry.
A couple quarts ought to be just enough for my medium fries.
.
.
P.S. Of course, packet-related issues can still happen if you choose to go to the drive-thru. I'm reminded of this story...

Ah! The days when I ate meat. I can still taste those "hamburgers," and that was almost 20 years ago.

Janna, put your hands in the air and step slowly away from the ketchup dispenser.

P.S. I remember the styrofoam days. I liked how it squeaked. If you ever ran out of bubble wrap, McD burger containers were the next best thing.

Adrian: If you listen closely, you can hear them whispering to you, begging you to come back.

nonamedufus: You can have my ketchup when you pry it out of my cold dead hands.

meleah: Yay! :)
